UPDATE: How PIDA Members Can Help the Pets Impacted by Hurricane Harvey
The devastating floods in the greater Houston area have been top of mind for most of us since Hurricane Harvey made landfall last weekend. PIDA has been part of a group organized by the Pet Leadership Council (PLC) that is working with local authorities to coordinate the pet industry's response to the needs of pets and pet owners impacted. The PLC has posted a list of resources for members to help in the recovery efforts, including updates on how our distributor members in Texas are assisting with efforts, plus a map showing locations of open animal hospitals and supplies and even a link to help owners reunite with their pets. Dozens Of Pet Companies Rally Together To Provide Food, Supplies And Medicine To Rescue Organizations, Evacuation Facilities And Pet Owners
In an unprecedented collaborative effort, pet store and veterinary hospital groups, manufacturers and distributors and associations and organizations within the pet industry are pooling their resources and working with lead disaster and shelter officials to coordinate logistics of providing much needed supplies including sharing warehouses, facilities and distribution centers for storage until affected areas can be accessed. They are also tapping resources to help provide vehicles and helicopters to assist with evacuations and providing financial assistance to rescue organizations.
